Cherish (2013)

I know what pain is
I know what change is
It only takes one night to turn you inside out
Caught by surprise, the world is against you
Your heart is burdened with denial
Emotions at war
Lying on the couch at 3 AM
Trying to make sense of it all
Memories flood your mind
Grays the hair, wrinkles the skin, rots the bones
The pain must come first
You know things won’t be the same
Whatever way the wind blows, you don’t know
It may be too late
The sting of death takes its time
Join the ranks of those who raised you
Epiphany becomes reality only to those who accept it
To really live, and embrace all that lives
Part of you must die
And as I reach for the great light
Can’t look down or down I slide
And when I see my old self
I begin to laugh and cry
Soon the things I cherish slowly die
Welcome to my new world
Welcome to your new world

This is the tale of a quest
Four musicians in a band
Travelling through the woods
Journey across the land
Across the land
A girl of the forest strolling by
Saw the dashing young men
Approached them with a smile
“Impress me if you can
If you can”
And so, without hesitation, the violinist stepped up and began to play, for who could resist his beautiful melodies?
However, as he was performing, his string snapped, and being unable to play anymore, he stepped back in shame.
The trumpet player stepped up and began to play, for he knew that he could sway anyone with his irresistible groove.
However, before he could finish, he ran out of breath, for their journey was long and tiring. So he, too, stepped back in shame.
The percussionist, in a hasty manner, stepped up and readied his sticks; however, he soon realized that he had nothing to play on, for his drum kit was much too heavy to drag around, and consequentially could not fit in the recording studio. So he, too, stepped back in shame.
And when they were done the singer sang a song
So wonderfully with no one to play along
And the girl’s heart was won, heart was won
The moral to this story is a simple one indeed
The human voice is purest when no instrument you need
