Across the river, the asphalt river Memories then are hazy If I could only recall your face Signs of life so near me Can you hear me whoever you are Nervous little boy I am but a child What a new experience On the sidewalk shore Things you read in storybooks Companionship she showed me When I noticed she had gone Left this town for the city Or maybe nowhere at all, who knows Take me with you Carry me in your waves Please

Two thousand nine, I’m reaching in Whatever happened to this skin And all the hearts I’ve broken clean I wonder if I still haunt their dreams Oh, I can’t go back now Oh, there’s nothing left now Memories in colored jars I smashed them all to free the star Once more the glass turns back to sand And falls through the cracks in my hand

Sleep…never comes quite naturally to me If you could see…the things I’ve dreamed, you’d never lay your head down again And still you came and tread water on this delicate sea Put aside the ghosts and horrors that remain I’ll ward off all your demons ‘cause you’d do the same for me Get inside your head and play this song in perfect key That only you can hear So rest well tonight, dear, I hope that the fact remains That someone sleeps well knowing you Because you deserve nothing less than a prince and a gentleman’s arms And a head rid of horrors haunting you So next time I shut my eyes I have one to look forward to

You’re all on your own, go on now It’s yours for the taking You’ve made it this far Now what comes next? Hey now Don’t look at me like that You made the choice to go I’m only a man, a weakling just like you You’ve got freedom now, revolution you said But all that you have is the roof o’er your head The slate is clean but you’ve lost your chalk The bitter upward stare lingers in your eyes Drawing lines between the stars in the sky Maybe the picture will be revealed Personal space Then you find yourself alone Curled up hoping that someone that you know finds you there

Leather to the rails No one at my side A second chance to catch the next ride Abandoned engine wandering Moves e'er so slow Pushing forward on where’er the tracks go In mortal silence I traverse this barren way A drifter empty with a heart unstill to stay Moving on with the whole world far away Caught in the fires of change Sky is dry and still Scorched earth circling round There ain’t no signs of life to be found Sun’s rays blinding bright Hard to see clearly now Still I drive to find a home somehow Looking back behind me My shadow streches wide But there ain’t no shadow ahead to confide

She looks to no one Can you blame her at all? When nobody looks to her A perfectly decent girl Growing up, letting go With nothing to hide, or so it seems A runaway, in dismay Call her why don’t you come out and play Another day, in decay Every night down on her knees she prays for... The drapery hangs Behind those eyes, behind that smile Where her altar lies She cannot see the ships on the horizon But we all can A runaway, in dismay Call her why don’t you come out and play Another day, in decay Every night down on her knees she prays She shouts out at the sky and waits for an answer Wishing company that never betrays her Lying by her tears caught by her pillow As many moons pass by, how can she know? Where now are the stocks that bound you? Where will you find shelter from the hailstorm upon you? Where now are the deceivers who tore you apart? When will your frozen tears melt from your icy blue heart? When will I have to turn a blind eye again? Where does the rising toll to the gateway of your soul end? Who will throw the flowers upon your grave? Who in their darkest hour will wait to be saved?

about

Compilation of assorted material released during my first few years of post-collegiate adulthood. Anything that didn't fit with my various projects (Clark's Secret Identity, etc) goes here. Much less experimentation and more straightforward melancholic songwriting here.
